Noise Protection

Probably every city dweller has thought about earplugs at least once in their life. When windows face a busy road or tram depot, a kindergarten or school, you'd give anything for peace and quiet in your apartment. And if construction has started nearby, you have two options - move apartments or... install SilentPac windows. And now this is affordable for everyone!

How does it work?

Outdoor noise penetrates the room through windows. To improve the sound protection properties of windows, SilentPac uses glass panes of different thickness that dampen sound vibrations of different frequencies. Thanks to this, SilentPac reduces noise levels 1.5 times more effectively than a regular glass unit. You can rest peacefully even if your windows face a busy street.

What does window sound insulation depend on?

Window sound insulation depends on many factors. The glass unit occupies 90% of the entire window area, and it's through it that most sounds penetrate the room. Therefore, to improve the noise protection of a window, it's necessary to pay special attention to the glass unit. It has been proven that reducing external noise by just 3 dB reduces its perception by humans by 40-50%.

Using glass panes of different thickness

Using glass of different thickness significantly increases sound insulation properties. Thicker and heavier glass is less susceptible to external vibrations, and each additional glass pane and air gap create an additional barrier that effectively absorbs sound waves. This approach can increase sound insulation by up to 4 dB.

Using different widths of air chambers

Creating air chambers of different widths in the glass unit contributes to sound wave attenuation. Maximum effect is achieved when the distance between the central glass and the street-facing glass is different, with the wider chamber positioned on the street side. This is because the outer glass and its adjacent chamber are more exposed to atmospheric effects such as compression and expansion during temperature fluctuations. This solution increases sound insulation by up to 3 dB.

Increasing the number of air chambers

The outer glass of the glass unit takes the main impact of the sound wave and transmits vibrations through the air chamber to the next glass. With each such stage of transmission, the vibration energy weakens. Therefore, the more air chambers the glass unit contains, the more effective its noise protection will be.

Glass units with protective films

Integration of special "Triplex" type glass or glass reinforcement with films not only improves their sound insulation, but also significantly increases safety. Thanks to the applied film, such glass when impacted holds fragments together, preventing them from scattering.

To achieve the maximum level of noise insulation, we recommend installing windows with increased width profiles - 70 mm and more. Profiles 70 mm wide and above, unlike standard 58-60 mm, have more air chambers (5 and more), which serves as additional protection against noise penetration.
An important stop-factor for noise is also finishing the interior window reveals with sandwich panels. Noise can penetrate the room not only through the window, but also through reveals and mounting joints.
The sandwich panel used for finishing reveals is a three-layer building material 10 mm thick. It not only improves sound wave absorption, but also provides additional insulation for the reveal.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How does SilentPac reduce noise?

SilentPac uses glass panes of different thickness and chambers of different widths (filled with argon). This combination dampens vibrations of different frequencies, so SilentPac reduces noise levels by up to 40 dB and is approximately 1.5 times more effective than a regular glass unit.

Why use glass of different thickness?

Thicker glass is less susceptible to vibrations. The combination of glass of different thickness increases sound insulation and can provide an increase of up to ~4 dB by suppressing different frequencies.

Why is different air chamber width important?

Different distances between glass panes contribute to sound wave attenuation. Maximum effect is achieved when the wider chamber is positioned on the street side - this adds up to ~3 dB to sound insulation.

More chambers - quieter?

Yes. With each "transition" through glass and chamber, vibration energy weakens. Therefore, multi-chamber glass units protect against noise better. For maximum effect, we recommend increased width profiles - 70 mm and more.

Triplex and protective films - is this about sound or safety?

Both: they improve sound insulation and increase safety. The film holds fragments together when impacted, preventing them from scattering.

Does reveal finishing with sandwich panels help?

Yes. Sandwich panels about 10 mm thick additionally absorb noise, insulate the reveal and block paths for sound penetration through reveals and mounting joints.
